How does Cybertrace use Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) for Investigations?
Open source intelligence (OSINT) is the collection and analysis of data gathered from open sources to produce actionable intelligence. Cybertrace has been utilising OSINT tools and techniques for many years while conducting investigations, such as during background checks, location investigations, website forensics and fraud investigations.
While in the past Cybertrace has been fairly closed about discussing their tools and techniques, though the landscape has changed, and some individuals are considering conducting their own investigations.
Nonetheless, Cybertrace are very proud of the investigation reports they produce, with a hand-picked team of experts in their respective fields and a passion for investigating, some of their investigations take hundreds of hours to conduct.
Collaboration with the OSINT Community
OSINT is a world of its own, with many GitHub repositories and start.me pages hosting an endless collection of information gathering tools. Though Cybertrace, having used these tools have found many to be lackluster, with dated interfaces, basic capabilities and slow loading times. This is not the case for all OSINT tools, with some being highly powerful and have been crucial for the success of many investigations. The OSINT community has always been a helpful group of people from across the globe, with one common goal, gathering accurate information.
In an effort to grow alongside the OSINT community, and provide additional services to consumers, Cybertrace will soon be releasing a suite of advanced tools.
What OSINT Tools are Coming from Cybertrace?
While many OSINT Tools are under development, here’s what Cybertrace is about to open for use to everyone.
An Advanced Reverse Phone Number Lookup Tool

An Advanced Reverse Phone Number Lookup Tool
The creation of their own OSINT tools is a huge step for Cybertrace, and also puts them in a unique position, providing both investigation services and products for those who investigate. Cybertrace believe this will not deter people from hiring private cyber investigators, but will provide those who lack funding for an investigation, an opportunity to be their own investigator.
A proper online investigation often requires extensive analysis of many different types of information, such as phone numbers, email addresses, usernames, IP addresses, and more. Investigating people can often require extensive language analysis, suspect profiling and the use of unique technical tools specific to the case itself.
Advanced Capabilities and Fast Results
With the goal of prioritising speed, reliability and simplicity, the Advanced Phone Number Lookup Tool will begin by integrating with other powerful information gathering platforms, building additional features on top of these tools.
In the past, the development process at Cybertrace was outsourced. Now, they’ve acquired a development team who are passionate about creating powerful technical intel-gathering tools. These tools are specifically developed for purpose, and are designed for speed, reliability and simplicity.
Designing for real people to use the tool is so important, and the entire process of signing up to searching is being built with simplicity at its core.
Simplicity is often taken for granted during the development process, and if not taken seriously can lead to an overload of tabs and confusion, as well as a steep learning curve for new users.
Getting Social Media and Online Accounts from Phone Numbers
The accounts which Cybertrace’s Reverse Phone Number Lookup tool will be able to identify from phone numbers upon release are:
Skype
Telegram
Foursquare
Microsoft Teams
Duolingo
Discord
Additionally, the tool will be able to identify partially revealed contact information associated with various online accounts, such as:
Instagram Accounts
Facebook Profiles
PayPal Accounts
And finally, this tool will have the capability of identifying the Caller ID information for the provided mobile phone number, which can be an important piece of information for investigators.
This is only the beginning, additional advanced features will be added in the very near future, making the advanced lookup tool more capable than ever.
The Rise of Cybertrace’s Powerful OSINT Tools
Over the past 12 months, Cybertrace’s free scam phone number lookup tool (SPNL) has become wildly popular, reaching rank #1 on Google for related search terms in Australia, and often in the top 3 spot around the world. This is no coincidence. Cybertrace built the fastest, easiest to use and the most powerful scam phone number lookup tool. And importantly, it has no ads.
With more tools on the way, Cybertrace is very excited to be a part of the OSINT community, to help those who need it and to collaborate with others.
